Xbox Games Showcase 2024 came from the David Geffen Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night, and thousands tuned in to see what’s next for Xbox. This year, the showcase was packed with games - some brand new IPs, while others from fan favourite franchises. So, here’s everything you need to know…

The biggest games at Xbox Games Showcase 2024

Gears of War E-Day - We haven’t had a new Gears game since Gears 5, back in 2019, so there was a lot of excitement in chat when the latest Gears title was announced. Gears of War is known as a fast-paced sci fi shoot em up, but this new game also tells the origin story of Marcus Fenix. There’s no release date just get, but we’ll keep you posted.

Another high-octane FPS legend was also announced from the Doom franchise - Doom: The Dark Ages. Bethesda’s reboot of the Doom series was hugely popular back in 2016, with the also excellent Doom Eternal dropping in 2020. Hopefully Doom: The Dark Ages, which is putting a fantasy spin on the classic franchise, continues that run of form. We’ll find out in 2025!

Fable has been in the works for a while, and the latest trailer looks promising - featuring the dulcet tones of Matt King AKA Super Hans from Peep Show. Expect adventure, magic, monsters and a 2025 release date. And if fantasy’s your thing, you might be excited about Avowed. Set in the mythical world of Eora, developers Obsidian have created an epic adventure that should appeal to fans of Skyrim. And we’ll only have to wait until August!

Of course the headlining game was Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. COD is always a huge deal, which is why we were treated to a Black Ops 6 direct where we got tons of detail. Set in the post Cold War early 90s, expect epic set pieces and (of course) frantic online action. One of the most interesting new features looks to be HUD customisation. It was also confirmed that the lastest Call of Duty will come to GamePass on release day - October 25 this year!

New versions of Xbox Series X|S are coming!

Two new digital editions of the Series X and Series S are on their way. The Xbox Series X Digital Edition gives you the power and performance of the Series X but at a lower price than the disc version. And we’ve got a new Series S too with 1 TB of memory. Both these consoles are white, which looks to be the colour code for digital consoles in the Xbox universe.

And if you want to double up on memory (and keep playing your physical games) we can expect to see a 2 TB Series X on its way too.

What other games were at Xbox Games Showcase 2024?

Too many to feature here! While we were watching the stream, chat lit up when Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater was announced. Dragon Age: The Veil Guard is another beloved franchise taking a new outing.

We found out that Harrison Ford’s timeless character is taking on the Nazis once again in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. But there were plenty of new faces too. With more than a hint of the surreal and plenty of magic, South of Midnight looked like a stylish adventure. As did Expedition 33 - which reminded us a bit of Bioshock.

There seemed to be a bit of a samurai theme, with katana wielding going on prominently in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

There was plenty of different types of games. Perfect Dark combined a spy adventure with some good looking parkour. Frag Punk is a fun multiplayer shooter. And Winter Burrows is a charmingly animated adventure where you play as an extremely productive mouse. But if realism is more your thing, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 lets you live out your professional piloting dreams.

DLC and expansions

Hot off the heels of the popular Fallout TV series, we’re getting the first map expansion for Fallout 76 in Skyline Valley. And it seems like no coincidence (especially if you’re seen the TV show) that you can now play as a ghoul.

And staying with Bethesda, Starfield fans are in for a treat with the Shattered Space DLC, which will feature serpent-obsessed cult, House Va’ruun. Although it’s not out until later this year, we’ve been given brand new Starfield content, weapons and more - available right now!

And there’s more content for World of Warcraft with The war within, Sea of Thieves starts a new season at sea and Diablo IV is getting an expansion in Vessel of hatred.
