Do you love to fill your home with music? Instead of moving your speaker with you or having it blaring in one room, you can easily connect multiple Bluetooth speakers to create a home-wide aural experience.

Whether you’re setting up your first Bluetooth speaker or linking multiple Bluetooth speakers for an audio boost, we’ll walk you through it in a simple way.

Connecting Bluetooth speakers in your home

There are lots of ways to get your Bluetooth speakers working together, whether you’re using a specific brand’s app, your smartphone’s built‑in tools or a smart assistant like Alexa. Below, we’ll break it all down so you can choose what best suits your setup.

How to connect to a Bluetooth speaker

Before we start connecting to multiple Bluetooth speakers, let’s make sure we are able to pair one Bluetooth speaker to your phone:

Step 1: Put your speaker in Pairing Mode

The first step, and arguably the most important, is to make sure your Bluetooth speaker is turned on and ‘discoverable’. Some speakers are discoverable once they’re turned on, but some might have a pairing button that you’ll need to press for a few seconds. Often, there will be a little blinking light to let you know your speaker is discoverable.

Step 2: Open Bluetooth settings on your device

Go into your Settings on your phone, TV or laptop and make sure Bluetooth pairing is switched on – this is as simple as a little on/off toggle.

Step 3: Select the speaker from your Available Devices list

Once your Bluetooth is on, you should be able to see all the nearby Bluetooth devices, select your speaker, and then you’ll be ready to rock.

This is the same process for all Bluetooth devices, whether you want to connect to your headphones, car audio, or multi-room speakers.

Linking speakers with Auracast

Auracast is a new Bluetooth feature that lets one transmitter device broadcast audio to multiple nearby compatible speaker receivers.

You’ll find Auracast on many modern smartphones, plus speakers from companies like JBL.

How to connect to multiple Bluetooth speakers

Now that we’ve mastered connecting to a single Bluetooth speaker, let’s look at how to connect multiple Bluetooth speakers to one device and have music fill your home.

Thankfully, speaker brands plan for you to connect multiple devices for a booming full-house sound and have created apps to help you do it. Here are some of the top ones:

Connecting multiple Bose speakers

The Bose Connect app lets you link two Bose speakers in either Party Mode (same audio everywhere) or Stereo Mode (left/right channels).

  1. Open the Bose Connect app.

  2. Choose your main Bose speaker.

  3. Select Party or Stereo Mode and add your second speaker.

Connecting multiple JBL speakers

Some JBL speakers use JBL Connect+ or PartyBoost, and you can link them for a bigger, fuller sound.

  1. Turn on all JBL speakers, then pair your main speaker with your device.

  2. Press the JBL Connect+ or PartyBoost button on each speaker.

  3. The speakers will then link automatically.

Connecting multiple Sonos speakers

Sonos speakers use the Sonos app to create a multi‑room experience.

  1. Open the Sonos app.

  2. Add each speaker to your system.

  3. Group speakers or rooms in the app to play audio everywhere you want.

Using your smartphone to connect multiple Bluetooth speakers from different brands

Some phones let you pair multiple Bluetooth speakers, even if they’re from completely different brands.

Android (Samsung ‘Listen Together’):

  1. Go to Settings → Bluetooth and pair both speakers.

  2. Look for the ‘Listen Together’ pop‑up.

  3. If it doesn’t appear, swipe down → tap Media/Media Output and select your speakers.

Apple (HomePod only):

  1. Open the Home app.

  2. Choose your HomePod → Settings → Create Stereo Pair.

  3. Select the second HomePod.

How to connect Alexa to a Bluetooth speaker

Currently playing your playlists through your Smart assistant? You can connect your Bluetooth speaker to your Amazon Echo, Dot or Show for twice the sound.

  1. Make sure your speaker is discoverable for pairing

  2. Open the Alexa app and select Devices – Echo & Alexa

  3. Choose your speaker

  4. Select Bluetooth Devices, then Pair a new device

Create the ultimate sound experience

Bluetooth Speaker Pairing FAQs

Can you connect multiple Bluetooth speakers to one device?

Yes, you can connect multiple Bluetooth speakers to one device, depending on your device, operating system, and the speaker brand. Some phones support dual‑audio modes, while apps like Bose Connect, JBL PartyBoost, and new technologies like Auracast make it easier to link multiple speakers for synced playback across different rooms or spaces.

Why is my Bluetooth speaker not connecting?

Your Bluetooth speaker might not be connecting for a few reasons. Here are a few things you can try:

  • Check that your speaker is in pairing mode and toggle your device’s Bluetooth off and on again.

  • Restart the speaker and your phone.

  • Remove the device from your Bluetooth list and pair again.

How do I reset my Bluetooth speaker?

Most Bluetooth speakers can be reset by holding a specific combination of buttons — often the power button plus volume up or down. Each speaker and brand is different, so check your user manual for the correct steps to fully reset your model.

How close does my device need to be to pair with a Bluetooth speaker?

Bluetooth works best within 10 metres, but this can vary by device, plus additional factors like walls, thick furniture, and other wireless signals can weaken the connection. For the most reliable pairing and playback, maintain a clear line of sight between your device and the speaker.
